The Body Care Product No One Talks About
Deodorant is a body care item that everyone uses but few talk about. In this guide, we’ll show you what can hide inside, what to avoid, and what to look for.
Deodorants can be one of the most toxic products you can put on your body. Conventional deodorants use a combination of:
Preservatives
Petroleum based chemicals
Parabens and phthalates
Fragrance
Aluminum
Just to name a few. One of the most common and concerning additives to deodorant are the preservatives/binders of phthalates and parabens. These chemicals have been linked to hormone disruption, and can include carcinogenic compounds. Read more about these chemicals here.
Common ingredients to avoid:
diethyl phthalate
methylparaben and propylparaben
Propylene glycol
Fragrance
Aluminum
Arm pits are a part of the lymph system, which is responsible for:
Draining waste
Dealing with cancer and other problematic cells
Regulating bodily fluid
Arm pits will absorb some amount of what is put on them and can be circulated into the lymph system and can cause issues in other places. For example, hormone imbalance from hormone disrupting compounds cause issues all throughout the body including: acne, irritability, low energy etc. What you put on your armpits has the potential to affect your entire body.
Like any other product, all natural doesn’t really mean much. Make sure to check the ingredients and look for:
Natural deodorizers (arrowroot, magnesium, aluminum free baking soda)
Non petroleum, natural bases (coconut oil, tallow, etc.)
Scented with essential oils NOT fragrance.
